Had planned this SK/BA trip with 2 work buddies, Matt & Paul a number of months ago. John9L was considering a R2R2R, but common sense got the better of him and he contacted me that same morning to see if he could join us instead. No problem.

We all meet at Visitor Center and took the Orange Bus for an 8:30am start. We sped down the steep South Kaibab, stopping a Cedar Ridge and Tip Off for potty breaks. (Paul had decided to cross the Tonto to IG rather than go all the way to the river, so we separated at Ceder Ridge)

Took some great shots at at Panorama Point. When we starting back down the Gorge we were stopped by a mule train for about 5-10 minutes while THE BEASTS rested in the shade...joyfully, when the mule train started back up we got blasted by 4-5 NASTY, albeit, harmonic mule toots...:yuck:

After crossing the black bridge, we wandered up to Phantom Ranch since Matt discovered they had beer at the cantina. On the way, John (thanks John) showed us the Rees Griffiths Grave which I'd unknowingly walked past several times before. At the Ranch, Matt bought 2 expensive yet "beautiful" Tecates ($4.25/ea) while John and I explored PR and the campgrounds a bit with our cameras.

We crossed the Silver Bridge, hiked the River Trail and stopped at Pipe Beach so Matt could see the River up close (his first time). I left early and got a head start up the Lower BA thinking the youngsters, Matt and John, would easily catch me before Indian Gardens...I must be faster than I think ( ;) ) since I arrived with tons of time to spare. I later found out those two had downshifted their speed BEHIND some young, pink spandexed female hikers and were taking in the marvelous and diverse views the Grand Canyon had to offer.

At IG, I cranked out a Mtn. House for each Matt and I, which truly tasted awesome - - but I paid the price with a heavy stomach ache between IG and 3 mile afterwards. Lesson Learned.

Was a very nice day....lots of people to contend with on the trail of course, but overall we had a great day with great weather.
