1st trip

a supes classic that has been on my wish list
mnlumberjack provided an assist with a shuttle from mining camp restaurant to carney trailhead
thank you, jack! much appreciated and very nice to meet you
started hiking right at 7:00
i have a tendency to wear too many clothes at the start of a cool weather hike, then have to remove layers and carry them the rest of the way, so i refrained from doing that today
was warm enough once i hit the west boulder canyon climb
mentally divided this hike into three pieces
having hiked to peak 5057 twice with johnlp, i was familiar with this section
the uphill wasn't bad
enjoyed the sun coming up and had the wind to my back
views are amazing once hitting the saddle
i like hiking on the rock in this part
did not go to the peak, as i was entering new territory in the middle and didn't know what to expect or how long it would take me
i knew there would be continuing elevation changes, but was not expecting so much loose rock and scree - not my strong suit
there were some fun scrambles just past 5057, and over and through some of the boulders and hoodoos further on
loved any spot where you were truly on a ridgeline and could see down both sides
what a perspective!
some flat stretches as you got closer to 5024
chose not to go to 5024 or flatiron this time
recently hiked up to both, so just headed on down
finished at 12:14
loved every minute of this hike, even the hard parts, and would do it again in a heartbeat
next time will go up siphon and hit both peaks
posting my total time, and not deducting 22 minutes of non-moving time as i did not take a true break but rather stopped here and there to take pictures, facilitate, remove rocks and cactus needles from my shoes, and scratch my head looking for the next cairn
wandered off trail a couple times, but quickly realized it and backtracked
this trail is very well cairned, and i only took out my gps one time to confirm something
met a group of three, who jack and i saw at carney setting up a shuttle, and another couple groups of two
weather was good for it - probably upper 40s at the start to a high of mid 60s with a breeze
a good one for my 250th triplog
