| no partners | | Excellent adventure in the northern McDowell Sonoran Preserve! I went in search of the Ogre's Den. I found the place with the pseudo-Native American graphic and the offerings (33.681976, -111.812372) based on help from a few HAZers. Because the place I found didn't have a picnic table, I also made an initial attempt at searching the boulders at (33.680331, -111.804521) for another den. I thought the Ogre's Den was a furnished place, but [based on some info from HAZers] it may be that the place I found is the "Ogre's Den" (unfurnished) and the furnished place is some neat looking place other than the Ogre's Den.
If you have info on the Ogre's Den, please post it here or in the forum post here: http://hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic.php?t=7443.
Additionally, I went out to The Lookout and beyond on the Lookout Trail and tracked the new Mesquite Canyon Trail and Feldspar Trail.
Did a lot of poking around and picture-taking.
When I started around 2:00 p.m., it was 45?F. When I finished around 7:15 p.m., my car said it was 32?F. When I was moving, particularly when using the trekking poles my kids gave me for Christmas, it wasn't cold. But if I stopped moving for any amount of time, I got cold fast. |
