The trail starts along a road and is marked with an old forest service trail marker. Grasshopper's route soon took off us off the road and up the ridge. At first the trail was pretty much non-existent. I decided to veer off from the track over to where my GPS mapping showed a grey line that would be the trail. It wasn't there so we decided to follow the combo of the track, cairns and a barbed wire fence line. The trail headed about halfway up the ridge and then cut to the left and around the mountain, following Methodist Creek. We took that trail to the corral, had lunch and headed back. We would have liked to have gone further, but the loose rock on the trail combined with the heavier brush as we moved further slowed us down to about 1 mph.
The conditions were pretty rough, but I'm glad we were able to check this area out. Maybe one day if I have time to do backpacks we can try to finish this area off.
along the trail we found some kind of odd object that looked maybe some remnant of a weather balloon (?). |
