There were five of us for this canyon, me and four guys. Noting this to help others with planning.

Joel and I scouted the drive the night before so that we wouldn't waste time driving down the wrong road. This was a good idea because the Todd Martin book failed to mention an intersection so we did take a wrong turn during our scouting.

We headed out of camp at 6 AM. It was amazing that we were pretty close to being right on time.

The noted bushwhacking was easy compared to our usual fare. I guess it's all based on perspective. I've never met a bushwhack I didn't like. :sl:

At the start of Sunburst it was filled with maples. I kept thinking that we needed to return in mid October to check out the fall colors. The canyon is pretty with the reddish/orange walls and all the green foliage.

Mid way through Sunburst, Joel slipped on a log on one rappel hitting head pretty hard. He lost his peripheral vision on one side for a while. :scared:

At one point while waiting on anchor rebuilding I noticed an owl checking us out. He was very observant and was probably rating our canyoneering skills!

One of the rappels is off a dead man's anchor (otherwise known as a cairn anchor). It was a bit nerve-wracking rappelling knowing that not much was holding me.

For some reason the boys thought I should be the one to rappel down first into a pool. I was to tell them whether or not we'd be able to touch. I first told them it was bra strap deep but then I modified it so that they could understand and told them it was manboob deep!

When we finished Sunburst we had our lunch. Right after that it was pouring rain as we started down Secret Canyon.

I made a navigation mistake and following some route out of the canyon to early up to a ridge. We figured out that we needed to remain in the canyon so we backtracked.

In one spot we had to go through some canyon stew filled with wood chips that somehow penetrated into our pants. Back in camp I made sure I cleaned up as best I could! Nothing like trudging through that and then not showering for a few days :yuck:

Beautiful maples filled the drainage we took out. The non-hikers of the bunch didn't really appreciate the climb out. Three of us thought it was a breeze while the other two suffered a bit.

Again, Josh and I collected some Puff Balls and had a nice supplement to our meal in camp! Even though we had survived from eating them the night before no one wanted to join us...
