| no partners | | We were going to go anyway but we had hoped we could get some of her (new to me) friends out.
In the end it was just one other couple who could go and I had to make him drive since my vehicle is under the knife. Some goofball pulled out in front of me a week after I lost my job and I basically drove through his car; Nothing was left from his windshield up. There wasn't a scratch on mine body-wise as my tire took all of the impact but the frame was tweaked so insurance said totaled. Anyway, I did a buyback on it and swapped a new frame under it with a friend in a sweaty 12hrs and now I'm rebuilding the front suspension for long travel. Anyway, all that to say I enlisted someone who put his stock Xterra in 4wd as soon as his tires touched the dirt to drive the hell road in to White Box (they were also an hour late to leave because they had to wait for fresh bread to bring on the trip, but now I'm just old man grumping on some of her city-folk friends). So the drive in was.... interesting. The long mud sluice on the 142 main was just a slop fest and I just yelled don't stop as his glossy used up passenger car tires shimmied around in it. Oh and all the bypasses on the right were closed due to the Egypt fire maintenance so it was a momentum game all the way through. 142 A&B took a long time as usual and by the time we got to the end, Brian told me I was driving the way out so he could "learn better."
We got down the hill and into camp with enough time to set everything up and no rain fell all night.
The next day it was overcast for a good 70% overhead and it sprinkled a few times but nothing to worry over. I was very grateful the log jam had moved away from my rope swing. Not sure why another one got put up right next to it. We tried a double but our butts were friends the whole swing out.
We scared up a big white tail coming in view of the gardens. We stayed the mandatory time in the water and in the sun and then headed back when all had had their fill. We met a group as we were heading back that we had seen at the A-B juncture hiking all the way in during our drive. They had camped at the solo tree on top.
The schedule worked out well to where we had plenty of time to crawfish so I could put the big pot to use. I think the count was around 60 once we began the boil. The little metal grate was gone from the campsite but I had brought a little one with so we suspended it over the fire for the cooking.
Noel and I tried sleeping on the rock that night but after a couple hours we had to tent it when the rain started. It rained pretty heavy that night but cleared up by morning.
The hike out was muddy but doable with our au natural hiking sticks. I obliged Brian and took the wheel for the way out. I took the rockier 142 end out knowing I could navigate that better with his stick shift. He didn't know his vehicle could climb rocks like that and was loving it. All in all it was a another great WCC experience. Brian got my number from Noel and text me a couple days after to tell me he got some new tires and couldn't wait to use them again.
I brought my friend's gopro for the pics.
