| no partners | | My second trip down those #142 roads, and I've been lucky that I was a passenger each time. We had three different vehicles, a 4 Runner, a Tacoma and a Pathfinder and all the drivers put it in 4 wheel drive. The Pathfinder did get a flat tire, but everyone pitched in like a pit crew and had it changed in no time.
We car camped on the rim across from Buckhorn.
We started our day at 8:30am and after a humid walk/slide down to the creek, we were all ready for a swim! Some of us were headed to the hanging gardens and some blew up some floaties and just floated for the day. Last year, on my first visit, I was only shown the White Box, this year, I was on a mission to see the elusive Hanging Garden. The swims and the views made it seem like we hit the Garden in no time. Amazing how much cooler the water was there! Standing under the waterfall took your breath away!
On the way back we picked up a lantern, a neck pillow, two tarps, several Pepsi/Gatorade bottles and I found a Floatie Noodle. There was a whole sleeping bag down there, but we left that for another good samaritan to lug out.
The hike out is a little bit of a scramble in certain parts, but easy to do when you know Happy Hour is waiting at the cars! |
