This trip didn't totally goes as planned, but at least I made it to the Hanging Garden. Unfortunately, due to other afternoon commitments, I had short opportunity to enjoy the White Box and Garden areas. Good thing I got an early start. Woke at 3:50am and hit the road.

The road to the trailhead, at one point is no longer a road, but an obstacle course. I was moving so slowly that I decided to just park and walk the extra 3.5 miles to the actual starting point. I should have just kept trucking, as long sections of the road opened up in between each obstacle section. Also, wasn't in my own vehicle, so caution was taken.

I made one wrong move that cost me 30 minutes and an extra 1.4 miles distance. I took a right at the final intersection where I should have continued left. I was convinced that is what I remembered from satellite views. It wasn't long after I made the correction that I ended up back on the right trail with overhead power lines in the distance.

I arrived at an empty trailhead about 8:30am and continued down the steep trail. Talk about loose dirt and scree. My feet were constantly sliding out from underneath me. Fortunately, I kept my balance in all instances and never took a spill. It took about 15 minutes to reach the water where I stashed a bottle of water, started inflating my floatie and continued towards the White Box.

If I was to see the Hanging Garden, there would be no time to play in the White Box. I arrived at the gem of West Clear Creek at 10:07 where I spent some time to take in the sight and snap some pics. By 10:45 I was back to rock-hopping my way towards the climb out. It was 12 noon when I started my ascent up the steep cliff. Footing is much easier on the climb up, but the temperature had climbed about 20+ degrees. Lucky I had filled up two empty water bottles with spring water.

The hike out was hot, mid 90's. I was thankful that it wasn't the 117 that was forecasted down in the valley. I took my last sip of 125 ounces of water (spring fill-up included) with about 200 yards to go before reaching the truck. Couldn't wait to open the tailgate and grab the two bottles of water I had frozen the night before. They were perfect...a thin column of ice remained, surrounded by icy cold refreshing water. Ahhhh!

Made it home with just enough time to shower, change clothes and husk some corn before friends began showing up for a barbecue. My kind of day...powered right through it.
