The water level was very low behind the dam. So low that I decided to cut across it. I went down the right side of the dam and cut across one of the inlet and then went on to the other side. I had to walk over 2 fields of washed out wood. My boots got wet from the frost. I saw a Jeep road leading away from the lake and took that to FR479 (right by Deadman's Creek). This shortcut shaved 4 miles from the trip and gave me time to do some exploring
Isher Flat is one cool place! I could spend a day here. There’s a huge beach front next to the Verde. I made it to Sheep Bride and went down the Verde River trail. On the way back, it was too dark to short-cut across the lake, so I took the long route back.
It was a cold day except around 1 when the sun was out. It got very cold about 4PM and warmed up once the wind died down. |
