| no partners | | I started at the TH by the railroad tracks and headed north. It was very chilly when I started. I needed my gloves for the 1st 3 miles. This was an out and back, but along the way I checkout some old roads/trails and sometimes just bushwhacked to the Gila river. This area never gets old for me. Being out in the desert and seeing riparian areas. The temps got a bit warm in the mid afternoon. While I ate lunch by the Gila river, some guys in a 4x4 golf cart asked for directions. They wanted to know how to get out of the wilderness.
The best part of the hike was when the sun dropped. The combination of a bright (nearly full) moon and the openness of the desert made some awesome night hiking. I hiked under moonlight for the last 5~6 miles. I only had to use the flashlight when the moon was obscured behind something. I could a good 1/2 mile out. It was truly an awesome experience!
The moon is just a sun at night! |
