The plan was to hike from Picket Post to Box Canyon on the old mine roads. I parked at Picket Post and headed down Reymert road. Soon the road headed south and I came across a gate and the had mine safety info, but no “No Trespassing” or “Private Property” posted. I followed the road ended in “No Trespassing” signs. I was off the Reymert RD. I walked around with the GPS zoomed it and found an old abandoned road that lead to a mining tailings. I was about to give up, then I studied my GPS and figured out where one of the new mining roads crossed over where the Reymert should have been. I went up and saw that the new road was on top of the old one.. The Reymert road was about 12 feet below the mine road. There was a fence line with a gate at the road. I went down the tailings to the road. The gate was wired shut! Someone went through some effort to discourage people from passing. There was no “No Trespassing” or “Private Property” signs on either side of the gate. The wired gate didn’t stop this stubborn hiker! I hopped the fence and continued on Reymert RD.

Soon there was an old Smelter off the road. I talked to an guy was in the mining industry. Copper , Silver and Nickel was mined in the area. I continued on to E. Mountain Mineral road and down to box canyon.

The temps were cold for most of the day. The sun didn't come until 4PM. There was sprinkles of rain through the day.

It wound up being a fun day. One take away : if the hike gives you a lemon, be stubborn and work through it!
