| no partners | | After hiking on the JMT for 6 days, I did some easy touristy kind of stuff with Mr. Wendy, Mr. Wendy's Mom and my sore, swollen feet. We headed into Devil's Postpile with Tiffani, then into Mammoth for some shopping and beer tasting. To be honest, after 6 days on the JMT, the Postpile was a bit of a let down. It is an amazing example of columnar basalt, but it's really the story of volcanism in the whole region which is interesting - and I got a better sense of that from driving around and reading signs near Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain.
Then the three of us moved the party to the June Lakes area for more r&r, as well as a little eating and beer drinking. Mr. Wendy and I spent a day wandering around the edges of Mono Lake, trying to get in closer to the Tufa without using the standard routes in. This meant some serious brush busting and a lot of fun crawling around half-hidden and buried tufa stands.
It was a lovely interlude, and a better reintroduction to life than just driving back to the big city might have been. |
