| no partners | | On a long loop drive I went from the Cuyamacas to Descanso, and on through Pine Valley, and then on old Highway 80 to Sunrise Highway, to Mount Laguna. I stopped at an outfitter's there I had heard about, sells mostly ultralight backpacking gear.
The PCT runs the length of the Laguna Mountains. I had only wanted to hike up Garnet Peak, but I think I selected the wrong trailhead. Although you can get to Garnet Peak via this trail, it was further than I thought it was supposed to be. I hiked along the PCT for about a mile, enjoying the views out to the desert and on beyond the Salton Sea. The area burned over last summer. The chaparral will grow back quickly, but not the old pines.
Since I wanted to get back home before dark, I retraced my steps. I had already done one hike on this day, Stonewall Peak in the Cuyamacas. |
