| I decided to attend this event at the last minute. I was checking the HAZ web site early in the morning thinking about going for a short hike somewhere nearby when I saw a PM from Trekkin Gecko asking me to look for her watch in my car. She thought she might have left it there on our hike with Grasshopper two days earlier. The watch was there and I remembered she had mentioned going on this New Year's Day hike up Stewart Mtn so I decided to combine my hike with delivering the watch.
I arrived at the Stewart Mtn hike starting point 1.5 hours after the official start time and started the climb up to the saddle area between Mt Stewart and two other peaks. Upon arriving at the saddle area it became clear that the HAZ group had already left Mt Stewart with some on their way up the west peak and others already on top of the east peak. I started to call JohnLP on my cell to see if he knew where Trekking Gecko was when she came walking across the saddle towards me with Johnr1. So, with the watch successfully delivered the three of us hiked to the top of the east peak for some great views.
Later we regrouped with the other HAZers to enjoy a tailgate feast prepared by Randal. |
