Decided to go for a quick exercise hike up the East End Peak starting at the Tom's Thumb Trailhead. Forgot to upload a gps track but was confident I remembered where the peak trail exits the TT trail. I was making good time and meeting my goal to keep chugging up the steep trail without stopping to rest. The resultant lack of oxygen to my brain must have led to the bad decision to exit the trail at a different location from that shown on the official track. Something didn't look right about my route but I stubbornly kept going crawling up what I thought was the north side of EE Peak through a maze of huge boulders. When I reached the top and started taking in the views there was a major OOPS moment - I was on the wrong peak. EE Peak was about a quarter mile to the southeast and there was a clear view of the trail I should have taken.

I started searching for a route down to the saddle area between the two peaks but soon got lost in the boulder maze. Each route I chose ended getting blocked by a large drop from a huge boulder or a narrow gap filled with cats claw. I was avoiding the cats claw so the new hiking shirt given to me as a Christmas present from my daughter wouldn't get torn to shreds. Experienced a mild adrenalin rush climbing down some vertical boulder faces but made it to the saddle and up to the peak. Had lunch while enjoying the views and then headed back to the trail head happy to have survived in one piece.
