Planned a quick exercise hike up to Tom's Thumb and back from the TT trail head on the north side of MSP. A nice day, lots of people on the trail. Made good time (for me) going up the trail. Almost met my goal of going all the way to the saddle where the TT trail intersects with the East Side Trail without stopping to rest. Stopped once for a few minutes to talk to a couple on their first hike on this trail. Got within about 200 yds of TT when I saw a nice spot for lunch with a view on a knob NE of the thumb. Arrived at the spot and looking back at the thumb I saw a climber starting to climb the SE face of the thumb. Parked my rear on top of a huge boulder and proceeded to eat my lunch while taking pictures of the climber. Then the hazy sky started to open up to clear blue with streaks of white clouds. Got excited about taking more pics and ended up staying longer than I planned.
