| no partners | | Starting from a sandy beach at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, I paddled with my family out toward the end of the jetty. They had rental boats for one hour, so they had to go back pretty quickly. I wasn't ready to stop paddling, though, so I broke off from the group and paddled over to Oceanside Harbor. At one point while I was still with them, my daughter handed something to her sister-in-law and OVER went the kayak! Although she's a total newb, she just reflipped it, got back in, and laughed! She was just mainly concerned she had not dropped the items she was handing over--the car keys and her phone in a ziploc bag! Yikes!
I enjoyed looking at all the boats and their funny names. One boat was called "Hell Froze Over" and I imagined this guy whose wife said, "You'll buy a big fishing boat when Hell freezes over..." As I continued to paddle, I saw some sea lions and loads of water birds, pelicans, etc.
Then back to the quiet cove at Pendleton. I also found out I don't have to be with my daughter-in-law, who is a military dependent, in order to get on base. I can just drive to the gate and show my driver's license and go to the boat ramp. It has a sandy beach, whereas Oceanside Harbor's boat ramp is very steep and rough--terrible place to put in. |
