This post is all about the problems with my feet. So, if you don't want to read about my feet, I would say, quit reading right now! Look at the photos--a few wildflowers and plants.

Okay, so this 2.15 miles wasn't much of a hike. My goal today was to find the distance I can hike without causing the pain and burning in my feet. (Toes and front pads.) This time I was successful. I am going to stick to this distance of two miles or so, and try to do it OFTEN in the coming days and weeks. I am hoping to toughen the feet a bit, and get back something like my previous fitness. I will also swim and bike. Weather is better now.

I wore the low-cut shoes this time (Men's La Sportiva Boulder-X, size 43). They were okay with the addition of the foam pads under the tongues (see photos). I have been switching off with a pair of heavy old boots, Vasque Wasatch. Both pairs caused the same burning and pain after 2.5 miles or so.

When I can I am going to buy a pair of Women's Lowa Renegades, 11 narrow. I've had them before. They are just about the only boot left on the market made in something close to my size. The previous ones were very good when not too broken in. I have thought of a couple of ways to extend the life of them once they do get too broken in.
1. Take them to a cobbler and have them stretched longer, and
2. Use the foam pads under the tongues (see demo photos).

The exciting thing is that there had been a death out there, top of the mountain above Hellhole. They helicoptered the body out this morning. The caretaker told me it was a transient, and that was why there was no car at the trailhead. Of course, in order to hear this story that means you read all about my feet, so for that, I have to thank you!
