| no partners | | This was a wonderful day, spent with 11 other kayakers. I organized this trip with a friend who lives in Yuma. For a while we were pulling out our hair with changes of venue--and at the last minute could not use our planned take-out point due to a bluegrass festival being held there. But it all came together on the day, and the weather was wonderful.
This is a part of the Lower Colorado River that almost no one ever sees.
We saw a young bald eagle, osprey, great horned owls, great blue herons, etc. etc. One woman who knows her birds said she heard the elusive Arizona Clapper Rail several times.
After this paddle some of us went over to Squaw Lake Campground, spent the night, and did another paddle the next day.
It's my goal to paddle the entire lower Colorado from Pearce Ferry Rapid to the Mexican border. I have a long way to go--it's at least 450 miles of river and lakes. But, this was 12.5 miles of it! |
