Enjoyed an MLK Day hike with the family and a couple of friends. This was a great hike for January, and not too strenuous. The views of the lake were great! I would revise the hike description to explain what the "destination" is for this hike. About 1/4 mile before the end of the trail, there is a fork in the trail, with the left fork going to "Burro Cove" and the right fork going down to the Shoreline. We tried both directions, starting with Burro Cove. We didn't quite make it there, because we got sidetracked at a beautiful lookout point (that many before us have beaten a path out to). We thoroughly enjoyed the views, but were a bit disappointed (upon returning home and looking at our GPS track) that we didn't notice that the actual trail continued on to the left before the spur trail that led to the lookout point. Oh well. Next time ;) Backtracking to the fork, we headed down to the shoreline. You can get right down close to the water, but the trail peter's out and is blocked by brush, etc., preventing you from actually being able to dip your toes in, etc. However, from that vantage point, Four Peaks were beautifully framed across the lake. See photos. We started our hike around 1 pm., and the trail was quite busy with folks returning from morning hikes. We didn't run into too many folks on our return trip. Back at the Butcher Jones site, we skipped a few rocks out into the cove, then called it a day. Fun hike, especially for hiking newbies or those looking for a less strenuous workout. Views are great all along the way, so it would be easy to shorten this one, as desired. We'll be back to get down all the way to Burro Cove next time. :)
