| no partners | | Started in late afternoon, going counter-clockwise, my first trip to Gateway TH. I would add another word to the trail name: Gateway Sunset Loop. Coming down on north side from Gateway Saddle from 5-6, stopped numerous times to eyeball the setting sun and click-off some photos. Very nice sunset, but clouds didn't fully cooperate. With telephoto lens, I would've had a nice shot of North Mountain and Shaw Butte resting westward in the distant haze. You hear the most intriguing snippets along the way. Today's best, a put-down, came from a woman hiking with two other females: ". . . he thinks all women are gorgeous." What's the argument?
It's bumpy walking up high, lots of out-croppings, but thankfully not much loose rock. Busy trail, seemingly used mostly for exercise. Very few poking along like me. Counted 21 hikers and joggers up to the saddle and 43 coming down. Little too busy for my taste. Will have to go up Wingate or some other high trail to escape, I suppose. |
