This was the welcome to Phoenix hike I threw for myself, and surprisingly it ended up being much better than expected. Of course I am one to judge a hike more by the amount of fauna I discover along the way, than the vistas or terrain. With that said I was expecting some whiptails and the occasional dove but to my amazement I ended up seeing tons of lizards with colors and patterns I'd never seen in Tucson, I nearly stepped on a desert tortoise, and I finished the hike slightly happier about the fact that I had to leave Sabino Canyon and the Catalinas behind. I know I will miss the complexity of the sky islands, but am excited for this new chapter in my life.
If anyone has any recommendations for the phoenix area I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd prefer wildlife and seclusion on my hikes, but am not opposed to a good summit or breath taking vista. |
