First was to get a good close-up view of Ash Peak to determine if a future peak hike is doable. Brought along my spotting scope to help get a good view of the upper peak and Yikes, I'm not sure about reaching the top of this one. Gonna have to just give it a go to find out .....
Second was to explore the valley below the peak with a visit to the Ash Peak Mine (silver) & Ashley Mine. Visited both of the old mines and a few other unnamed holes around the area. Lots of very cool rocks along the way with the big find being a wash full of geodes eroding out of the banks. Within a couple of minutes I had found 5 good hollow ones full of crystals. Marked the spot and will be back with a pic & bucket next time the rockhounding itch strikes!
Wildlife sightings were all in the first 5 minutes hiking in when I saw a lone white-tail doe over yander staring at me and then quickly turning into 12 does running up the canyon Most deer I have ever seen together at one time!
Ended the trip with a short drive to Duncan for a meal before turning back and heading home.
The views of the Peloncillo Mountains from Duncan up to US191 are always worth the drive alone! |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated I saw a poppy. |
