| no partners | | Our hike choice for Monday was the always popular loop starting at the Columbine Corrals CG. This campground is close enough to Soldier Creek CG that you can walk to the trailhead from there if you like (Paul and Caroline did). Did the loop clockwise, stopping for an extended break at Webb Peak. I don't know when the newer metal ladder was put in at the tower, the one I remember featured old rickety wooden steps (some missing) that made it a bit of an adventure climbing up. Jim gave it a go, while the rest of us were content to stay on terra firma.
A short while after leaving the peak we heard chain saw action ahead. A trail maintenance crew was clearing the trail and was working in the opposite direction we were going. What good fortune! The rest of the way down to Ash Creek was a breeze. Thanks guys! 
After another break by the old boiler at the trail junction, it was an easy climb out on the Ash Creek Trail to our vehicle at the campground. This was a pleasant mellow hike on a peaceful day.
