| no partners | | I usually don't head into Gila Box on the weekends, but Bonita Creek was on my mind the night before and I wanted to see it.
As I arrived I knew there would be people out on this Easter weekend, but I was really not prepared to handle how many people were going to be along the Gila River, Bonita Creek & everywhere in between.
Easily the most people I have ever seen in the Box.
I parked at my usual site to hike the "pipeline road" section and as I made my way down Bonita road I was passed by many trucks, quads & rails. Arriving at Bonita I decided to just off-trail along the creek and avoid all the people along the road. Even with all the noise, I was still able to find a few nice isolated & quiet pockets along the canyon. And my god ..... Bonita Creek is just beautiful right now with all the green flora coming in!!!
Heading back down the canyon & out at 3pm I was a little surprised to see big thunder clouds moving in on the box and for about an hour big lightning strikes hitting the eastern hills.
As the storms moved west, I headed south and out of the box ending my quarterly visit to Bonita. |
