Drive in to Mortero Palms trailhead from Highway S2 (just west of the Border Patrol checkpoint) took me to my first stop at the San Diego & Arizona Railroad crossing at Dos Cabezas. Not much remains there now as the buildings have long since been removed. This is the easiest and most direct route to go to Mortero.
