| partners | | I decided to join Sir Charles and his merry band of mad Take-a-Hikers for this one. I first met Charles out on this same hike in 2009 (my only other time there). I told one of my Tucson hiking friends he might like this one, so when he said yes, it sealed the deal. Once he had agreed to the hike, I came out a few days earlier to double check on the driving route and time from Tucson. I wanted to be sure to get out to the trailhead before the others arrived, since I knew they were pretty fast and I am now a slow hiker. I also wanted to surprise Charles and didn't sign up. It was more fun crashing the party! We actually ended up having almost an hour lead time on the group, but some of the fastest ones caught up to us just before the peak. I'm really glad we did this, because for me the most important thing was to be able to enjoy some post hike brews and banter back at the parking lot!
It worked out pretty well, even though I ended up totally exhausted and was the last one back down. The lack of any serious hiking since January took its toll, but I kind of expected that.
I'm glad Paul came along and got to do his first hike in this remote range. He almost bailed when I told him how many people had signed up (neither one of us are fans of big group outings). He told me later that he was glad he went out there to see some new territory and that the hike was actually a little tougher than he expected.
Stopped at Del Taco in Casa Grande for some much needed food on our way back home. |
