| no partners | | I decided to hike up the Battleship for my third time, but this time I approached from the trail head at Canyon Lake instead. The lake and mountains looked awesome in the early morning sun and the views looking South were amazing! Seeing La Barge, Weavers Needle and Battleship approaching from the North was incredible on this cloudy day! Met up with 3 random guys Todd, Calvin and Jeff and headed down the trail with them. They were going up La Barge and I followed them into the canyon a little ways to check it out. It was my first time seeing La Barge up close and the rock formations were gorgeous! I said my farewells with them there and cut a path of my own making straight up to the south end of Battleship.
The mountain was a little slippery, but I made good time to the summit and had lots of fun along the way. Saw a hawk at the top and the usual amazing sights. Noticed in the log that a man all the way from Ireland had made the hike a few weeks ago and remarked that it was the best hike he had ever been on. Made me feel grateful to have the Supes in our backyard.
Went down on the West side of the mountain and began my long journey back to the marina at Canyon Lake. Saw a few hikers on my way back North and two lovely ladies who kindly directed me onto the right path home. The climb out was really draining a lot of energy from my tanks. However, I got into a good groove and used my mental strength (and desire for a burger and beer)to motivate my pumpkin back to the top. Turned around often to see how far I had gone and how far I had come. I was very happy with my hike today! The weather was great all day and I covered lots of new ground. Another hiking success in the books! |
