Saw MNLumberjack taking pictures and introduced myself as a fellow HAZer. He said it was a good day to hike the Battleship and he was right. 70's with some cloud cover and very little wind that day. Set off right away and cruised down to second water trail and headed east for the Battleship. Pointed at the top of Geronimo Head and told Dave that's where we were headed ha ha. Took pictures of the views on the way and made it to boulder canyon trail and headed south.
Still some water flow goin on in the canyon, lots of little pools full of algae. Definitely not as awesome as it was in November though. Got to the pumpkin end of Battleship and I took Dave off the trail and up, up ,up. I feel like I took a different way up than I did the 1st time I did this hike, nonetheless made it up just the same. We were both excited to be there, the views were amazing as ever. Made it across the narrow ridge but we stopped short of the summit due to an old knee injury Dave has. A successful hike was had regardless and we were super stoked to be on top of that mountain for sure. Smiles all around!
Dave was tired on the way back. This was the longest distance he had ever hiked before. My friend really pushed his limits on this one. Needless to say we were both happy when we saw the first water trail head pop into view. Toasted to the hike with in n out burgers afterwards. This was a good hike and a great time, love it out there! |
