| partners | | Anyone who has been on Battleship Mountain in the Superstitions has seen the jagged Peak 2830. http://hikearizona.com/photo=382831. I have been wanting to climb it for a couple years, and JJ and have been talking of doing it for about a year.
We began the off trail departing from the Boulder Canyon trail about a third of a mile past the use trail to Battleship/LaBarge Box. The route we chose going up is steep but not too brushy or dangerous. The views from up top are of course outstanding. We scrambled to 2803 first then over to 2830 where John checked out and signed the register. Only two groups since the register was established in 2010.
We chose to descend a brushy ravine going down into the beginnings of LaBarge Box. Not recommended in shorts, which I was wearing. Soon the bushwhacking was over and we were in the creek bottom leading into the box. The box never gets old. Lots of little fish in the pools. Not much flow.
The hike out was uneventful until we saw a brightly colored object a quarter mile away up a hill side. Thinking it could possibly be a lost or injured hiker, John set off on a rescue mission only to find another mylar balloon in the wilderness. Oh well, at least he cleaned up the garbage.
Lunch at Del Taco after was amusing. Thanks for everything John. Great day! |
