| no partners | | After hiking the Sunset and Marshall Gulch trails we wanted a little more mileage and elevation, so we decided to drive farther up and do the small Meadow Trail/Mount Lemmon Trail loop. The Mount Lemmon Trailhead was about half empty.
Once you get on the Meadow Trail you're in a very quiet and peaceful, densely forested area. We stopped a couple times just to enjoy the complete silence. There were a couple little patches of snow still left on the ground in shady spots. After a half mile or so you come to a more open area where if you go off trail a bit you have mostly clear views to the South and Southeast. Awesome spot! After that you go back down into the shaded forest and meet back up with the Mount Lemmon Trail. The trail here is just a dirt road, and you still have nice views to the South on your right before you re-enter the forest back to the trailhead. After our previous hike, the elevation here was very tiring so we decided to call it a day.
I wish I had read all of Preston's description of the Meadow Trail, because we skipped the Lemmon Rock Lookout on the way back. Next time! We still had a wonderful day and I can't wait to come back and explore more of the Catalinas. |
