| no partners | | My first trip to Horton Creek. Parking lot was full but we arrived just as someone was pulling out. Not sure what I can say about this trail that hasn't already been said, but this might be the most beautiful hike I've been on so far. I'm not sure how it usually is, but there was a ton of water flowing in the creek. We really took our time on this one and just enjoyed our surroundings. There really weren't a lot of people on the trail today, which was very surprising. We saw probably less than 20 people the whole day.
It was overcast most of the day, and it rained lightly several times. The cool weather was amazing after the recent heat in Phoenix. We followed the trail as close to the creek as possible the whole way to the spring. There are mild ups and downs for most of the trail. Most of the elevation seemed to be near the end climbing up to the spring. Nothing too bad though. We had the spring to ourselves for the whole 20 minutes we were there, which was awesome. The cascading waterfall at the spring was beautiful and so relaxing. I would love to camp here in the future. Being able to look into the wall and see the water coming was quite cool. I wanted to stay here all day, but reluctantly we turned back. On the way back we went up away from the creek and followed the trail along the ridge for a ways. That was much less interesting than the creek and we went back down to the creek the first chance we got.
Definitely hated going back to Phoenix after this one. I need to come back here and explore more of the trails in the area. I have a feeling I'm gonna be back here several times this summer... |
