And the Day arrived to meet up in one of Johnr1's Favorite Places.... :)

I decided to get an earlier start so that hopefully I wouldn't be making anyone wait. Although I knew that this Route was shorter than Gateway, I knew it would be a huffer for me...I was on the Trail an hour earlier than the Regular Meetup Time and kinda surprised myself in that I was up at the Thumb in just over an Hour ... :D I can attribute part of that to the fact that most of my Stops were just because I was Sucking Wind and not taking Pot Shots at anything with the Camera...I think I only had 2 Photo Stops all the way up...The Air Quality was very Poor so the Far Away Vistas that one might expect on a Hike like this were non-existent.... :(

I was stalking a Bird who was feeding her Young in a Nest when Angela arrived...I never did get a Shot of the Chicks, they were buried deep in the Crack of a Rock that was too high for me to get an Angle on...We sought Refuge in a small Alcove as the Wind was blowing up there pretty good and we were getting Chilled...Before long the Super Hikers arrived and we took off for a nice Spot behind the Thumb...

After a Nice Toast and some Photos, we reminisced about John and shared a few Stories and then the Rocketfoot, the Teva, and Tortoise Jr. took off to try their Skills out on the Thumb...Joe practiced Climbing/Scrambling the same 20 feet, Bob was on Crack most of the Time and lil Denny tried to hide in a Tree...I could just see the Smile on John's face simply because somewhere, he was watching the Show...It was thoroughly Entertaining and even the Vultures bought a Ticket.... :sl:

After everyone had had enough Fun and descended for the last Time, it was time to pack up and go...By the time we got down to the Main Trail, the only thing left of the Guys was their Dust, so Angela and I didn't even bother to try and keep up. Let the Photography commence... :D First on Lizards and then Blooms...We also got some serious Entertainment on the way down...First, we were trying to figure out WTH was on a Ridge way above us...With the aid of our Superzooms, we figured out that someone had dragged up one of those Folding Reclining Chairs like I use when I'm Car Camping...Those things weigh about 15-20 pounds... I don't know what possesses people to haul stuff like that up to places like this...The sad thing is that half of them figure out that it's a pain in the :pk: and don't feel like hauling it back down and then just leave them.... :tt: After marveling at that, we continued on down, running into the Orange Olympians further down the Trail...After the gawking was over there, we ran into more people carrying big, bulky Folding Chairs...WTH? Must have been some kind of Leisure Convention...Apparently, there are not enough Rocks to Sit or Recline on up there.... :sl:

Most of the Cacti had a Bloom or two on them, but they were kind of pathetic...But just before we arrived at the TH, Angela and I hit the Mother Lode...This Prickly Pear was huge and just covered with Blooms...We took a Time Out on the Trail and the Shooting Commenced...We shot that Puppy from just about every Angle and then proceeded on to the TH after one more short Stop for a little Red Cholla that was begging for some attention as well.... :D

Other than the Air Quality, it was a Perfect Day weatherwise to do this...Just a Great Hike for all the Right Reasons with Great Friends...Thanks for putting this together Bob and for the Treats and Libations at the Top....John would have been very pleased... : app :

Forever in our Hearts John Scott and when I look up and see that Thumb, I will always see your Smile... 8)

Some of the Cactus was Blooming and some Isolated Wildflowers here and there....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"
