Mrs. big_load and my cousin G. (who moved to AZ last year) convinced my family to hold a reunion in Flagstaff this year, which naturally meant that most of us had to visit the GC when it was pushing 100F. And since I was involved, it also meant at least some of us were going to hike.

While others rented bikes, a bunch of us hiked from Mather Point to the Geology Museum, while one hardy soul (Mrs. big_load) persevered to El Tovar and back to Mather Point.

After pigging out at the cafeteria (and rehydrating excessively), we waited for sunset to enjoy the final day of this year's Star Party. Some of the highlights were the M5 globular cluster, the Ring Nebula, and Saturn blown big enough to see several moons and gaps in the rings. It was sad to be there without my Uncle Jim, an astronomer who often led such activities, now befuddled with dementia.
