Left Flagstaff in cold and very windy conditions. We hit heavy snow squalls almost all the way to the canyon. My Brother and Sister in law left Michigan to get away from this type of weather.
We found a place out of the wind behind the BA Lodge and my brother and I made our Mother's Day call from the GC.
The plan today was to do the Rim Trail over to Hermits Rest. It's a 10 mile hike with only one bit of a climb as you leave the village to the west. This would hopefully give us views of the canyon, get in a bit of a workout, give us bail out spots and a bus ride in case the weather turned any worse. I tried to explain to them that the snow added a bit of ambiance to the views... and it really did.
We made a point to stop at everyone of the lookouts on the way. I'd never been the entire way to Hermits before, so it was an enjoyable hike. Once we got to Hermits Rest, we hiked down the Hermit Trail a little bit.
On our drive back to Flagstaff, we took rt 64 out to the east exit to give them an entirely different view of Arizona. We hit a few of the Viewpoints and spent some time time at Desert View and the Watchtower. I hadn't be there in years.
