| no partners | | Throughout the Flagstaff family reunion, my name had been on the board to lead a hike, but it kept getting postponed, probably in fear of the ordeal I would make it. However, people were finally sold on the alpine (sort of) meadow concept and the possibility of cooler weather, and we were off.
The problem was, we were off a little too late in the day, and this is the beginning of monsoon. A few clouds turned into a skyful, then a little rain, a little thunder, a little more rain, a whole bunch more rain, along with pea-sized hail. A few (OK most) of my cousins had talked themselves out of carrying rain gear, because this is Arizona after all. People were still having fun and were game to continue as it worsened, but I figured it was only a matter of time before somebody got hypothermia, and there wasn't anybody present who deserved it.
We retreated and consoled ourselves with Navajo Tacos at Salsa Brava. |
