This turned out to be a pretty good hike. I wasn't ever super clear on the route so I wasn't sure what we were doing except that it involved climbing up and down the rim multiple times. Bruce's original plan was a quick 9 miler and then off to check out an old ranch but that wasn't in the cards today. We got all up there today.

We started at the top of Pine Canyon and headed down the infamous "switchbacks". We would hike pass Stradling Canyon and Cinch Hook Canyon and decide later in the day which would be honored to have us. We then got to the signs for "Deep Pools" and "Darling Rocks". I've done this trail multiple times but never taken the detour so I was find with checking them out and they wanted to as well. We made it to Darling Rocks which were pretty disappointing so we figured the Deep Pools might not be worth the effort. We bushwacked back up to the Pine Canyon trail and covered some ground for a second time.

Bruce warned us that the East Rim Trail was pretty steep. The rumors are true-- its real steep. We trudged to the top. There's some nice views along the way. At the top, we bushwacked over to a road and went to check out Bruce's route back down into the canyon. It was steep, overgrown, and full of rocks that moved. It was not my favorite thing and I was happy to see the creek at the bottom. We stopped for a good break and filled up on water.

After our rest, we bushwacked back again to the Pine Canyon trail to hit Stradling Canyon. This trail is marked really well and I kept expecting it to get really steep and it just never did. There were a couple fun climbs and its really pretty. Its also packed full of poison ivy. I've trekked through loads of poison ivy and never been bothered by it so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't wake up itchy.

We made it to the top and back to the truck. It was a tougher day than expected but it was fun to explore more in an area I've spent some time in.

Don't worry if you don't see Chumley or Bruce around town for a while. They're both saving up for something real special :D
