Some of the peaks in the Inspiration Quadrangle caught my eye on the drive back from our Sierra Ancha camping trip. So I figured it's about time to bag a few of the fourteen 300-foot prominence peaks in the quad.

I decided to start with a few of the 'easy' ones, Peak 4061 & Peak 4240 (Babich Benchmark). While the loop hike to reach both summits was relatively easy. The short drive to the water catchment where I began the hike was anything but easy. The .6 miles on FR #225 took just over 2 minutes but the mile on old FR #1032 (signed incorrectly as FR #1120) took almost 20 minutes. The very steep loose-rock climbs on badly eroded slopes made for very slow going, with the last a very steep slope down, which gave me a bit of pause, wondering how I'd make it back out. Oh well, I won't worry about it until the time comes.

With humidity finally down to a reasonable level and a nice breeze, the hike was actually quite refreshing. A few pretty steeps slopes to deal with but nothing scary or requiring major effort.

I took panorama photos and videos on both summits and ate my PB&J lunch on Babich Benchmark. Although I had the data sheet along with the direction and distance to the two Reference Marks, after thrashing around for almost 20 minutes I was unable to locate either one. Oh well, time to head back.

On the way back I came to a fence I wanted to follow but was unsure which side of it would be better. Unfortunately, AFTER taking off my pack to wriggle through a gate in the fence that was too tight to open I found out very soon I should have stayed on the other side... and had to dump the pack again to cross back. After that it was just a drop to the bottom of the wash before a long climb backup to where I began the hike.

The drive back out was the toughest part of the day. Just as I began to drive up the steepest hill, which was nothing but loose 3-4" rocks, I realized neither front nor rear locker was functioning. All the switches had power to them and appeared to be working but the fuse to the air compressor had blown so there was no air to engage the lockers. At the time I didn't know that was the problem so I just had to crawl VERY carefully up the hill, stopping the moment I heard any wheel-spin. Taking it slow and careful and I made it out ok. If I was unable to, I would have spent the time to figure out the problem but since I made it out ok, I decided to wait until I got home to fix the problem.
