This section of the river is not popular, and not very spectacular, but I saw loads of birds. Most of the beaches require a tribal permit to land and are overrun by ATVs. However I saw not a single boat, which was nice. Perhaps it was because the river is so low now. The current is fairly swift in places so I moved along pretty fast. The four and a half hours included a snack stop and a lunch stop, and numerous times when I just drifted and took photos. I had a good time. It was almost epic, but not quite. I put in this morning at 8:30 or so, and took out at 1:00 or so.
The weather was mostly cloudy, which was a nice change from the usual bright sunshine. My neighbors are going to take me back to where I left my car.
I hope to complete Davis Dam to Parker Dam by the end of January or so. It's part of my project to paddle everything between upper Lake Mead and the Mexican border.
The river is pretty low right now, and there were a lot of places a power boat would have had trouble. It was great for a kayak, though. There were even some little riffles! |
