| no partners | | This was my first foray on the mountain bike to explore the various roads within Topock Marsh. (I have previously posted a ride along the river levee, not in the interior of the marsh.) I started near the Colorado River (see GPS route). So far I have been paddling twice at the marsh, starting over by Golden Shores on the other side of it. My destination was to find a canoe/kayak portage trail over the top of the levee from one of the marsh's lakes to another. I had been there via kayak, so now I wanted to bike there. All the roads are dirt, and I prefer dirt road riding.
I saw not one other vehicle. Good surface to the roads, no sand, some gravel, but it's not onerous.
Problem is that most of the time you can't see the water. There are a few small trails to the water, and the waterworks facilities as well (where they let water in from the Colorado River. One of these is where the portage trail is located.)
But it's pleasant enough for a workout ride, and close to where I'm living at the moment. If I had any patience I could go bird-watching. I can ID most of the birds I see. Sometimes I go home and look one up in my book. However, if I took the time to look there are likely some birds I haven't seen before. |
