I was with a hiking group out of Bullhead City I've been involved with. Big_Load's cousin, Gretchen, was along. I've hiked with her before.
It was a hot Saturday, and legions of young people, mostly natives of Las Vegas, were "hiking" there as well. The hot springs pools (all of which looked very yucky to me) were full of these kids. It was a bit like spring break. It was good to have the young guys there when it was time for all of us oldsters to hike out. Several times they offered to help us up the roped sections. They were friendly, even if they do drop trash and cigarette butts. Many also seemed to be attached to audible music. Well, just go with the flow, I said to myself. And I was grateful several times to receive a boost. One boy was trying to help me as I wiggled and clawed my way up a rope. "Just push on my butt!" I called down. So, he did.
But I have absolutely no desire to ever go there again, unless to briefly land my kayak at the mouth of the creek on my way down from Hoover Dam, and then only if it appears to be deserted. Not my cup of tea at all. Way too crowded, not at all pristine, etc. |
