In between Dos Palmas and Salton Sea, I noted some more palms in the distance from Dos Palmas. I wanted to drive the BLM recommended access to the Bradshaw trail, so leaving Dos Palmas drove the Hot Spring Mineral Spa road from Hwy 111, an RV haven of sorts. Where the pavement ends I took a dirt road continuation just below the Coachella canal and below the colorful Chocolate mtns.
No signs for the route. I drove, and decided to hike to a mine area near where the Bradshaw trail starts, that I had also ignored before. Parked the car and walked up the steep washed out mine road, short, good gain to a great view. The mine was reclaimed but some purdy rock was seen. The road ended and I was on a burro trail I suppose. Found my way down then over a pass back to the car. Driving took a spur road toward the palms which seemed from my research to be the outlier San Andreas spring area palms. I then took the pole line road and a back way in. Ghetto place. About 8 structures in the area in decay, several stoves and a bee hive stuck in the center of the dense palm grove, which did have a little surface water.
I approached one house then the hair rose on the back of my neck and I quickly backed away and kept cover between the house and myself. It was quite derelict but as I got a view around some huge palms saw a satellite dish on the roof, and since I could see thru part of the house a new looking windshield of a quad or a jeep. parked in the back. Didn't wait around to find out, and I didn't hear any normal sounds like someone looking around like myself.

That place wasn't livable so I wasn't about to be that nosy to see what was going on. In the distance more derelict houses. One had a chain link fence around it and was in fair shape. The rest were rotting in place. Quite the homestead at one time, or perhaps even a little community on a dusty desolate road. I took pictures and got the heck out of there. I think I know a more public way there, and if I go back I will go that way.

Amazing what is hidden in plain sight, I love the surprise new places bring.
