| no partners | | Pulled out of my desk a 15 or so year old lead to a nice canyon area with some interesting features. Since so many years had passed I had no expectations and thought the area might be too built up. As usual I was wrong. Those that are familiar might recognize the area but since I am not too sure of land ownership I will not be specific.
It was good when I parked the jeep that within 20 feet I started seeing pottery shards. The jeep road had hundreds if not thousands of shards along it, an old Indian trail, going to and from water and the natural way through the hills. I ran across some outlines of homesteads, pottery shards and old glass, cans mixed in. Possibly started as Indian shelters then after they left miners or ranchers used them. Some structures were later and definitely made by other homesteaders. The canyon was not that scenic but graced by springs and some white outcroppings; I did not go too far so did not see if it got better, will come back for that. Heard dirt bikers run up the canyon, and they had some difficulty, so there might be some decent small falls.
I located the pictographs my information gave me flawlessly. All in all, a very good sunday with great desert strolling. |
