A nice trip back in on the old cow trail after beating the Toy up a little, Brian not feeling well so I was solo. I lost the trail twice but got back on it just as it dropped into the canyon. Wet foot crossing, quite a bit of water still flowing but tamer than a few weeks ago. I was looking for a rock wall we spotted across the canyon. Thrashing about didn't find it but perhaps the remains of a continuation of the trail I had been on. I went across a low shoulder to cut the corner before getting back in the canyon, a barren spot looked suspicious, a few metates spotted, then yep, an arrowhead at my feet in the dirt.
I then dropped back into the canyon crawling under a thicket of catclaw. I was very shortly at the first big pool, not having a handline I took pics of the nice waterfall there, then located a nice bypass on the right side LDC. I left my pack, but had a little mishap up there, tripped and almost face planted in a large century plant. That shook my confidence, and although I located an easy looking downclimb to a dry photo spot at the end of the first pool for the waterfall shot; I wasn't sure I could upclimb the last 15 feet so I didn't do it. The ledge I was initially on looked quite doable, with maybe a little exposure quite a ways on down, I took a few pics but didn't go on down as again I was being wimpy. I really wanted a shot of the fourth pool but didn't do it. It was a nice hike anyway.
A young couple and dog showed up, I spoke to the young man, Jesse, then ambled back to the car stopping to take pics along the way and make sure I was on most of the trail. I was at the car maybe 15 min then they showed up walking the road. I gave Jesse, Sierra and their pup Cheyenne a ride back to Oak Flat. Brian showed up as I was driving out, I was later than he thought I should be so came to check on me. I wish he had been up to being there with me as he bolsters my confidence in the high nervous places quite a bit.
What a beautiful day and hike. Met some nice people and saw some great scenery.
