Saturday we got a slow start. I had nuked a bushing and blown a rear shock, tired of several suspension mishaps, called Bilstein, located the appropriate rear shocks. It took us ( mostly Brian, I was support) 1.5 hours to put on the new rear shocks in his driveway using two jacks, and the usual assortment of sockets and wrenches. I will eventually replace the ProComp front suspension too. The vehicle rode much better right away.
So off we went, had a destination in mind, changed our minds, stopped at a spot to take a break and a snack. I decided to go down this canyon aways, it looked interesting, we usually just drove on. Brian thought it got boring after a short jaunt, but away we went, sans packs, me in water sandals and capri overalls, no sunglassess but my straw hat, looking every part the unprepared hiker hick.
It got interesting pretty quick. A couple of old abandoned vehicles. Green jungle like, water, slickrock starting to make an appearance. Benches, graced with seeps and greenery. Subtle walls, with vines growing starting to get taller. We followed a very well maintained bear trail. We saw at least 20 good sized poops in less than a mile. Charlie ran and played and jumped in the water. We came upon an idyllic camp area, accessed by another low grade road we had not taken. Lush grassess and trees just sprouting, some Arizona sycamores of epic trunk diameters. Past that an old serious dam, and backed up waters giving a graceful tree draped lake effect. Onward. Oops, in a lot of poison ivy in short pants and sandals. Nice and shiny with oil. Ok, out of that and a little rock hopping. Soon it was becoming more choked and less water. Here we turned around as we started back one of my keen sandals, which are old, started to lose its' sole, we wired it on then I got a blister. Then the other one went, I pulled both off and simply walked on the molded plastic part, ok in the soft soils, less traction on the rocks. I had lost my hat in some vine bushwacking, and we found it coming back. We got back to the car laughing at the little mishaps and sat on the rock in the section of pools and washed off and relaxed. We drove on but was denied by a 3 foot washout. We stopped in and walked into a mine tunnel we thought would be nothing, but went quite a ways and had some interesting points. We drove home and talked about how a nothing day had become a something day and it was quite satisfying. To the Salt the next day---
