These signs date way back, and had weathered badly. The steel cut-out shaped signs are permanent, but the Plexiglas was not.
Information on where they came from or how they were placed is sketchy; we found 8. An artist created the new panels—a long process—and the AZT welder-in-residence is mounting them, with a little help today from the usual suspects. The process felt like it would never end, but it’s done now.
The FS wanted two of them moved—why they were placed where they are is a mystery—some locations were quite remote and some have become more so due to road closures since they were installed. The usual suspects moved them; the one at Shreve Saddle came down to Gordon H. TH last week. The one a quarter-mile north of Redington Road was moved to the Redington Road TH today.
The new art panels are on the signs at American Flag, Sahuarita Road, The Lakes, Molino Basin, Gordon H. and Redington Road. Marshall Gulch and Reavis Trail Canyon will be mounted soon. |
