The cable had been cut or gnawed thru by some unusually ambitious knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Neanderthals, allowing vehicular trespass. We stretched out some of the slack and re-clamped it; then Tom scorched the clamp threads with his torch to deter a repeat. While he was doing that, the other suspects were working on the post holes.
Most of the work and time involved in sign/gate/kiosk installation depends on how well the digging goes. We badgered-down the prescribed 30 inches through decomposing granite or whatever the soil is in quick fashion--no rocks this time. Then the kiosk was leveled and clamped, the tarp-mixed concrete tamped into place, and the area quickly reclaimed. All this before 10:00 AM! We'll have to increase the work expectations on future outings.
The kiosk is salvage from Prison Camp TH on the Coronado Forest, re-purposed here because we shuffled one of the heavy steel AZ-cutout signs to this one's original location. ATA is working on artwork for this and other kiosks. |
