| no partners | | This might be my new favorite loop in South Mountain...Started off from the Chandler blvd. trailhead about 4:30 and headed up to the Lost Ranch Ruins. Pretty cool stuff, the big fireplace and foundations are all that remain. The trail gets a little thin right after the ruins, but a little bit of scouting around got me to the right place. This trail is a great push from here to National, nice and steep and no people! Headed east along the National trail and made a side trip up Goat Hill. Great views from up here, but the wind was just too chilly for a long stop since I was just in shorts and a t-shirt. I saw two coyotes at the next saddle, watched them mark their territory and scurry away once I got too close for their comfort, a few hundred feet away. Continued east along National to the Pyramid trail and took that back to the van. I got to play around with HAZ tracks a bit for this one, my previous phone was lacking in the effective GPS department. I downloaded tracks for a few portions of the trail for fun and to compare with what my Garmin tracks, the tracks were spot on. Certainly helps that this was in town and had cell service, but handy nonetheless. Great sunset too! |
