Brian “Mt98dew” gave me the idea of hiking the wash in between Cave Creek Park and the Northern Sonoran Preserve as a connecter trail. I used that Idea and went a little crazy.

I parked right off Carefree Highway and the Cave Creek Wash. It was the same location Wade “AZ Wondering Bear” used on a March hike, earlier this year.

5.5 Miles. The first section of this hike was to finish parts of the Esplanade Trail and the Cliff Walk Trail in the Sonoran Preserve.
7.75 Miles. These two miles where following well used trail to connect both parks. The trail was very easy to follow. I avoided a couple No Trespassing signs.
8.75 Miles. This mile was hiking the Cave Creek Wash to connect to the slate trail. It was easy going. Some of this was on trail and some was off trail.
11.4 Miles. This portion was hiking back to the truck. Picking up trails whenever available.
Real easy hike. Weather was perfect. Mostly cloudy with a little bit of rain from time to time.

I had planned on doing this next section at a future date. With the weather being as nice as it gets for June, I decided to add this section to todays hike. This hike was designed to connect the Sonoran Preserve south of Carefree Highway to the two trails north of the Highway. One portion will connect to end of the Tramonto Trail, and the other is to meet up with the Tramonto Peak trail 2225 and continue to the higher peak to the East. I had noticed this un-named trail on an earlier hike when I was on the Tramonto Peak Trail.

1.25 Miles. This section was easy going. I met up with the Tramonto trail then headed north.
2.6 Miles. This part of the hike was rough. The sun was breaking through the clouds. 1200 AEG in a short distance. Oh and the humidity was high! I had to take a lot of breaks. For the final accent, I waited a few minutes for the clouds to return. There was a nice breeze from time to time to help cool me down.
2.9 Miles. This portion was hiking to the eastern ridge and back to the higher peak. There was a little rock scrambling, but nothing to tough. On the way back, I notice and American flag. The flag had a burn hole. I lifted the flag, and there was a cigarette under it. Hummm........
5.00 Miles. Hiking back to the truck.
