| partners | | angela and i have been talking about a trip to mingus mountain
quite a few trails to explore up there
the eagle sent us a few ideas, and we picked the coleman - gaddes canyon loop for today
azbeaver was able to join us
nice to meet you, mary jo!
the higher elevations on mingus mountain are quite nice with lots of pine trees
started down coleman trail, dropping down to forest road 413
a little rocky and exposed mostly through juniper, with good views
a short segment on forest road 413, which was pleasantly shaded
up gaddes canyon two at a moderate grade
several creek crossings, good shade and an interesting canyon
stopped for a snack about halfway up
intersected with gaddes canyon trail for an easy ascent and topped out on a forest road
made a side trip to the fire lookout tower and were able to go up
great views of surrounding mountains, and could see showers building all around us
john from philly was quite entertaining, too
another road walk back to tonto, with a side trip to a viewpoint
in fact, we relocated back to this viewpoint for chips and drinks when we finished
heard some thunder, and with rain showers and hunger building, decided not to hike anything else
mary jo treated us to dinner at leff-t's - thank you
angela, thank you for driving
nice day with good company and new trails
lots more to do up there, too |
